Description
Pawn Shop is an international traveler, on tee shirts, chess magazines, posters, even coffee mugs. This is the most published and famous of my chess cartoons, done in part because my brother Larry Christiansen is a 3 time US Chess Champion, professional Grandmaster player, and there is color printmaking series of foam board plate monoprints using this image, one at the Boyleston Chess Club in Cambridge, MA where Larry now lives. I usually do my inks without pencil reference as takes too long and I got tired of erasing out line work. I found it helped my cartooning to do it in ink and white out.

Thank to the fan of this Chess Cartoon who ordered a print of it today. I currently have the original on display in my solo show at University of California Riverside Alumni and Visitor Center in the Goldware Family LIbrary thru May 6, 2011. My brother began his chess journalist career at UCR, and I added it to my resume as an artist and cartoonist as the older artist brother.
